What distinction does the manufacturer make?
MEAN WELL's switching-power-supply FAQ describes inrush as a pulse at power-on followed by return to the normal rating. Its related selection discussion uses inrush magnitude, pulse width and rated AC current as separate inputs.
Those distinctions justify separate supplier response fields. They do not provide a universal peak, duration or protective-device choice. RFQ Templates is independent and is not affiliated with MEAN WELL. Obtain the selected model's approved evidence.

What should the supplier comparison request?
Keep the event and conditions attached to the current value. A bare ampere number cannot show whether the supplier answered the normal-operation or startup question.
| Field | Supplier response | Comparison question |
|---|---|---|
| Normal input | Rating and load basis | Same operating point? |
| Startup peak | Magnitude and definition | Same event? |
| Duration | Width and measurement basis | Comparable pulse? |
| Conditions | Voltage and startup state | Same test conditions? |
| Group operation | Actual arrangement evidence | Single unit or package? |
| Review | Approved technical disposition | Is a gap unresolved? |
What would an incomplete quote look like?
Illustrative example. A fictional supplier response lists 3 A input current but leaves startup peak and duration blank. Another lists a startup peak and width while giving a separate normal input rating. Selecting the first because its only ampere number is lower compares different quantities.
Mark the first startup response incomplete and request the missing evidence. Do not treat the 3 A figure as zero inrush or multiply a single-device peak by an arbitrary count to approve the package.
Where does commercial comparison stop?
The quote matrix can identify missing or inconsistent evidence. The responsible electrical designer must assess the actual supply, connected equipment, coordination and operating arrangement using appropriate manufacturer information.
This guide does not choose a breaker curve, fuse, cable or startup sequence. Engineering sign-off is performed only by the registered engineer on the job. Keep approved technical decisions separate from a commercial completeness score.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Does an empty inrush field mean no inrush?
No. It means the requested evidence is missing.
Can two current numbers be compared without their definitions?
No. Establish the event, duration and conditions.
Does this matrix select protection?
No. It organizes evidence for the responsible electrical review.
